What log & exterior staining looks like in Edgemont Ranch

A log home at 7,500 feet takes more UV in a summer than most houses take in three. The south and west elevations burn first: the finish chalks, the logs go silver, and once water starts sitting in the checks you are into rot repair instead of a stain job.

We pull permits through La Plata County and, where the work falls inside city limits, through the local building department. You do not have to learn their process.

The work is mostly prep. Media blasting or sanding back to clean wood, borate treatment where it is warranted, then a finish system built for full sun exposure rather than whatever was on the shelf. Chinking and caulk lines get looked at while we are on the wall, because that is when it is cheap to fix.

FAQ

Log & Exterior Staining in Edgemont Ranch: questions we get

Not seeing yours? Ask us directly. We answer.

Do you charge extra to come out to Edgemont Ranch?

No. Edgemont Ranch is inside our standard service area and there is no drive-time surcharge on your invoice.

How fast can you get to Edgemont Ranch?

Small repairs typically go on the schedule within a week or two. Larger projects book further out, and it swings with the season. Pick a week on our site-visit page and we'll confirm the day with you. We're glad to walk a project months before it starts.

Are you insured to work in La Plata County?

Yes, we are insured, and we will send a certificate directly to you, your HOA, or your property manager before we start.

How often does a log home up here need re-staining?

Three to six years depending on exposure, and the elevations do not wear evenly. South and west faces usually need attention while the north side still looks fine. We will tell you if you only need two walls done rather than selling you the whole house.

Do I have to blast it, or can you just recoat?

Depends what is on there. A compatible finish in decent shape can sometimes take a maintenance coat. A failing film finish has to come off, or the new coat fails with it. We check before quoting rather than after.

What time of year is best?

Late spring through early fall. The finish needs surface temperature and dry conditions to cure properly, and forcing it in shoulder season is how you get a job that does not last.
