Log & Exterior Staining
The finish that keeps a log home from going grey and checked at altitude.

Finished work
A log home at 7,500 feet takes more UV in a summer than most houses take in three. The south and west elevations burn first: the finish chalks, the logs go silver, and once water starts sitting in the checks you are into rot repair instead of a stain job.
The work is mostly prep. Media blasting or sanding back to clean wood, borate treatment where it is warranted, then a finish system built for full sun exposure rather than whatever was on the shelf. Chinking and caulk lines get looked at while we are on the wall, because that is when it is cheap to fix.

- Two- and three-coat stain systems rated for high-UV exposure

Details, drive times, and local specifics for each community we cover.
How often does a log home up here need re-staining?
Three to six years depending on exposure, and the elevations do not wear evenly. South and west faces usually need attention while the north side still looks fine. We will tell you if you only need two walls done rather than selling you the whole house.
Do I have to blast it, or can you just recoat?
Depends what is on there. A compatible finish in decent shape can sometimes take a maintenance coat. A failing film finish has to come off, or the new coat fails with it. We check before quoting rather than after.
What time of year is best?
Late spring through early fall. The finish needs surface temperature and dry conditions to cure properly, and forcing it in shoulder season is how you get a job that does not last.
Who actually shows up to do the work?
Aaron, and his crew. He is not a salesman who hands your project to whoever is available. He frames, welds, runs the excavator, and sets tile himself. That is the whole reason one crew can carry a project start to finish.
How do estimates work?
Free, and in writing. Smaller jobs we can often price from photos and a phone call. Anything larger gets an on-site look. You can pick the time yourself on the calendar on this site.
What areas do you cover?
Vallecito and Bayfield are home base, and we work throughout La Plata County including Durango, Ignacio, Gem Village, and Forest Lakes. If you are a little outside that, ask anyway.
