Metal Building: Foundation to Steel
Metal building in Bayfield, CO, carried by one crew from the dirt work and foundation pour through the footings to erecting the structural steel.
La Plata County, CO 81122
Bayfield is home base. Most days there is already a truck in town, which usually means faster scheduling and no drive-time padding on your invoice. We build and remodel in Bayfield, Colorado and across La Plata County.
We are a local construction company, and most of what we do is the work that does not fit a template: shops, additions, decks, remodels, and the occasional new home or cabin. As the builder, we keep the dirt work, the framing or steel, and the finish in one crew, so there is one person to call. If you are comparing home builders in Bayfield, ask each one who will actually be on your site and who pulls the permit.

Permits & local rules
Inside Bayfield town limits, permits go through the Town of Bayfield building department, not La Plata County. Outside town limits (Forest Lakes, Gem Village, Vallecito and most 81122 addresses) it is the county. Not sure which side of the line you are on? Send us the address and we will find out. We pull the permit either way, so you do not have to learn the process.
On August 10, 2026 the Town adopted the 2024 International Codes (IRC, IBC and the rest) through Ordinance 519. Plans for work inside town limits are reviewed against the 2024 editions, and we draw and build to them.
The same night, Ordinance 520 adopted the 2025 Colorado Wildfire Resiliency Code. Inside a designated wildland-urban interface (WUI) area on the state map, it applies to new homes, additions of 500 sq ft or more of living space (the Town board can lower that to 400), and replacing 25% or more of the exterior wall surface. A re-roof by itself is not a listed trigger in town. If your project does trigger it, we plan for it up front, in the drawings and in the price.
Every contractor and sub working inside town limits needs a current Town of Bayfield business license. It is a fair question to put to any builder you are comparing, and licensing is on our checklist before anyone starts work on your job.
Frost depth is 32 inches both in town and in the county, so footings go below that. In town the design loads are 73 psf ground snow and 51 psf roof snow. Outside town, the county sets snow load by elevation (its GIS gives the number for your parcel), and the roof load jumps sharply at 8,000 feet. We check the number for your parcel before we price a roof, a deck or a steel building.

What Neighbors Say
Working with Aaron at VR Solutions has been a breath of fresh air. It's rare to find a contractor who consistently goes above and beyond, but Aaron does just that. He's stepped up on weekends to get jobs done, communicates clearly throughout the process, and always stays within budget. His dedication, reliability, and work ethic truly set him apart. I highly recommend Aaron and the quality service he provides.
Just want to give a HUGE shoutout to our Contractor, Aaron VanRiper and his crew! Post the disastrous October flood that damaged our entire ground floor…
It depends on which side of the town limits your parcel is on. Inside Bayfield, permits go through the Town of Bayfield building department. Outside town limits (Forest Lakes, Gem Village, Vallecito and most 81122 addresses) they go through La Plata County. We confirm the jurisdiction from your address and pull the permit for you.
A re-roof alone is not a listed trigger in town. The 2025 Colorado Wildfire Resiliency Code, adopted through Ordinance 520, applies inside a designated wildland-urban interface (WUI) area to new homes, additions of 500 sq ft or more of living space, and replacing 25% or more of the exterior wall surface. If your project crosses one of those lines, we plan for it from the start.
Yes. Every contractor and sub working inside town limits needs a current Town of Bayfield business license, and it is worth confirming before you sign with any builder. Work outside town limits falls under the county instead.
Aaron, and his crew. He is not a salesman who hands your project to whoever is available. He frames, welds, runs the excavator, and sets tile himself. That is the whole reason one crew can carry a project start to finish.
Free, and in writing. Smaller jobs we can often price from photos and a phone call. Anything larger gets an on-site look. You can pick the time yourself on the calendar on this site.
Vallecito and Bayfield are home base, and we work throughout La Plata County including Durango, Ignacio, Gem Village, and Forest Lakes. If you are a little outside that, ask anyway.
Not unless the scope changes and you approve it in writing first. If we open a wall and find something nobody could have known about, you get a written change order with a number before we go further, never a surprise on the final invoice.
Sometimes, and it depends on the season and where you are. The honest answer is that a half-day of work gets scheduled faster than a one-hour stop, so it pays to save up a list.
It moves with the season: staining and dirt work stack up in summer, interior work fills the winter. The booking calendar on this site shows real openings rather than a guess.
Service Area
Based in Bayfield, working a 45-mile radius. If you are just outside it, ask anyway. We make exceptions for good projects.
